The Shape of Things to Come

I know I’ve said that I’ve pretty much abandoned “Lost” and that hasn’t changed. But just because *I* don’t watch it doesn’t mean everyone else has. :)

There is a new episode tonight. The show has been in reruns for a few weeks now so I’m guessing fans of the show are salivating for a new one. I have about four episodes sitting in my DVR queue and I keep meaning to watch them to get caught up because I’m not quite sure I’m ready to give up completely on this show I used to Really Love. But then something distracts me and the queue grows and grows until it becomes to daunting to find that much time to sit down and watch a bunch of episodes.

It’s actually a big night for ABC with their major shows coming in with new eps. Ugly Betty, Grey’s Anatomy and Lost. So break out the popcorn and settle in kids!

I’m Lost

***Possible spoilers from past episodes in this post. Read at your own risk***

I’m having trouble following the convoluted, twisty plot of Lost. As much as I loved this show in the beginning, it’s become too much, too complicated for my tired brain to keep up with. I find I don’t care about the characters anymore. I miss Charlie. Ben just isn’t that evil to me. Sawyer’s lost his sarky edge now that he’s all googly-eyed over Kate. I can’t tell whether Locke is some sort of prophet/saviour or just some loser who thinks he’s a prophet/saviour. I’ve given up caring who Kate really wants. I still love Hurley though. He’s the gentle voice of reason amongst all the madness and chaos.

I think I’m done with it. Which is kind of sad because the show really had something in the beginning. Then it seemed to delve a little deeply into its own mythos. When a show has to play a recap hour before it starts so that the people will know what’s going on, there’s something wrong.

I think it was the third season when my interest began to flag. I was tired of a flashback per episode with the hidden little ties between Oceanic passengers and the increasingly complicated and mysterious plot that didn’t (and still doesn’t) look like it will ever be solved satisfactorily. I watched out of loyalty though but the only thing that “got” to me was Charlie’s death (hey, if you haven’t seen last season’s episodes by now you probably never will.)  When the new season began, I forgot that it was coming back on and missed the premiere. And I found I wasn’t all that broken up about it.

If it was up to me, I would wrap up all the mysterious stuff so that fans are happy and then I’d let the show go.
