Plenty O’ Telly

There is a lot going on in TV land this week. From a new Bones on Monday to a new Hell’s Kitchen last night (which has been TIVO’d to be viewed over lunch today :) ) to a new Wife Swap and Top Model tonight, to Smallville and Survivor tomorrow night, and finally - FINALLY a new Moonlight on Friday. That show’s been on hiatus forever and it was just starting to grow on me too.

Now, I know there are only a small amount of shows that I really talk about in this blog, and that my tastes run toward the rather nerdy stuff. I wish I had the time to get into a wider range of shows, but I’ll do my best to pass on the things I hear.

But speaking of nerdy, I have read that Joss Whedon’s new show, Dollhouse, began filming today! Excitement abounds! And former Angel actress, Amy Acker, has joined the cast. She played Fred/Illyria on that show. I’m ecstatic about that. Now we just have to hope FOX doesn’t cancel the show just when it hits its stride.

Update on Whedon’s Dr. Horrible Musical

A sort of one-sheet for the musical is now online at the official website:

First poster for Dr. Horrible

Filming is complete and some insider fan reports are starting to trickle out about the project. Don’t click any of the following links if you don’t want to be spoiled :)

From everything I’ve seen, heard and read, it looks like this project was a lot of fun, is full of great Joss music, stunts, lairs, heroes and villains. I wish I had a release date to share, but no word on that yet.

Dr. Horrible! Nathan Fillion and Joss Whedon together again

Good news Browncoats! Rumours have abounded for some time now about a top secret project involving Nathan Fillion (Captain Mal, “Firefly” and Caleb, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”) and Joss Whedon (creator of Firefly and Buffy). Last night, the man himself confirmed the rumours and released details on the project in a post on his awesome fansite, Whedonesque.com:

So…..

The bag is catless.

During the strike I started writing a musical intended as a limited internet series, 3 episodes of approximately 10 minutes each. Writing with me was my brother Jed, his fiancee Maurissa, and my other brother Zack. To my shock and surprise, we finished it. To my greater shock and surprise, we managed (with the help of many people I’ll be praising at length soon) to drag it into preproduction (yes, just as DOLLHOUSE was given a start date two months away and all my comics were due.) And today, after a grueling week of writing everything ever while trying to be a producer, I got to start shooting. A musical.

This much I will say: It’s the story of a low-rent super-villain, the hero who keeps beating him up, and the cute girl from the laundromat he’s too shy to talk to. And I’m having the time of my life.

“DOCTOR HORRIBLE’S SING-ALONG BLOG”

Neil Patrick Harris…..as Dr. Horrible
Nathan Fillion……….as Captain Hammer
Felicia Day………….as Penny

And a cast of Dozens!

Coming soon.

Yes, the AWESOME Neil Patrick Harris is also starring in this little endeavour :) It’s going to be… Legend…. wait for it… Dary!

Fans of Buffy will also recognize Felicia Day who played Vi, one of the potentials, and who has since gone on to appear in “Monk” and “The Guild.”

This is going to be cool! I love the title. I love the premise. I love that it’s a musical (Joss impressed the ever-loving hell out of me with the Buffy Musical.) I can’t wait to see this!

Will post premiere dates as soon as they’re announced :)

Dollhouse

Whedonites rejoice! Joss is coming back to the telly. On FOX no less. I’m wondering if I should be worried. The same network that canceled the marvelousness that was Firefly is now giving Joss another shot with another sci-fi show? Did they grow a brain? Did they kick themselves for canceling Firefly when they saw it become a cult classic that shows no sign of stopping?

I don’t suppose we’ll ever know for sure. But if I’m being completely honest, I don’t really care about the “how” of it. I just care that I get to see another product of Joss’ fertile imagination. Yes, I love Joss Whedon and anything he creates. Don’t care who knows it either.

ANYWAY… So the new show is called “Dollhouse” and will star Eliza Dushku (Faith from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”.) Sci-fi website Io9 has the scoop on the first official description of the show:

The drama stars Dushku as Echo, a member of a group of men and women who are imprinted with different personalities for different assignments. In between tasks they are mind-wiped, living like children in Dollhouse, a futuristic dorm/lab. A group of people, known as “Actives” (or “Dolls”), have had their personalities wiped clean so they can be imprinted with any number of new personas and hired out for particular jobs, crimes, fantasies and occasional good deeds. When not imprinted, the Actives live, childlike and unremembering, in a hidden facility nicknamed “The Dollhouse”. Although the Actives are ostensibly volunteers, the operation is highly illegal, and under constant threat from a determined federal agent on one end and an insane rogue Active on the other. The story hinges around a greater and more subtle threat: Echo, a female Active, begins, in her mind-wiped state, to become self-aware.

Sounds pretty cool and weird and interesting to me. There are a ton of rumours floating around about the show involving casting and whether Whedon will use other Buffy alumni. I’ll keep you posted.
