The Oscars

After much hype, the Oscars are over. And they were…. not that interesting. Jon Stewart, however, was great, laid back, funny and classy. When he brought back the woman who won for Best Song because her partner took up all the speech time so that she could ‘have her moment,’ that was classy.

For the most part though, the ceremony was a reflection of the fashion on the red carpet: safe and a little dull. A comment I’m seeing a lot of online today is why do they complain about how long the show is, yet take up valuable time showing montages rather than letting the winners have longer speeches?

Ok, ok. No one wants to hear and actor thank everyone from his agent to his junior high drama teacher, but even an extra 15 seconds or so would be nice for some of these folks who may never get another Oscar. And some of the winners are damn funny in their speeches. I could have listened to Tilda Swinton joke around a bit longer.

Plus, I sort of feel a little embarrassed for the ones who get shoo’ed offstage by insistent music when they’re still talking.

Speeches and length of the show aside, here are some of my awards for ‘Best Whatever I feel Like’ at the Oscars:

Best speech: Tilda Swinton

Best Red Carpet Moment: Garey Busey freaking out Jennifer Garner and Ryan Seacrest

Best Tattoo: Diablo Cody

Best CGI: The opening sequence of the ceremony

Best Jon Stewart Moment: Jon plays a Wii onstageĀ
