Rewatching an old fave
23 Feb
Since one of my favourite shows, “24″ was affected by the writer’s strike and will not return until next year, and because it’s been forEVER since I’ve watched all of it, I’ve been watching the DVDs of the first five seasons. I’m into season three now.
I used to be obsessed with this show. It was fresh and amazing and had the added bonus of one of my first teenage crushes, Kiefer Sutherland, as the star. I even created a fansite for it because I knew no one who watched it and wanted a place to talk about the show with other fans. I still run that site and it’s still fun
Anyway, the show is now like a staple in my house. Always there when you need it - that sort of thing. I watch other stuff of course. Have other obsessions. But “24″ will always be near and dear, and rewatching it from the beginning has bee a lot of fun. Even now I’m catching nuances I missed before. Like in the second season when Palmer fires Mike Novick for betraying him. I never noticed that Novick was actually crying. Made that intense scene even more powerful.
I’m definitely a rewatcher. Some folks aren’t. They watch it once and they’re done with it. Me, I like to revisit. It’s like checking in on old friends and seeing how they’re doing. Jack is still saving the world, but he’s a bit worse for wear these days. If things were different, I’d be knee-deep in Bauer-land right now and I do miss it. But until Jack is back, I’ve got my trusty DVDs.
