Fingerprints of Morning
After shooting an athlete’s portrait at Grand Island Northwest High early in the morning, I saw this image when leaving the building. Something almost invisible is now visible because of the angle of the sun in the morning.
Little Santa
I shot this while doing a photo package on one of the homes in the annual Holiday Tour of Homes. It’s very simple and clean. I just added some light with one strobe fitted with a snoot from the left to balance the light from the window shades behind and give the centerpiece some depth and texture.
The kitchen area dining table of the home features this Santa-topped centerpiece.
Knight Prep
Spent some time on the floor of the arena before it occurred to me to get up high – because I could. Then it was only a matter of waiting, and waiting, and waiting and waiting until one of the kids was in the right place with no one else in the frame. As someone once said, “It’s no accident that photography and patience both begin with a “P”.
Preparing for the Knight fundraiser at the Heartland Events Center, Grand Island Central Catholic seniors, including Kylee Flaherty (top), set the tables on the events center floor for the gourmet meal to come. This is the first year for the event to be held in the events center instead of the Fonner Park concourse.
Highlighting Veterans
Weather canceled this year’s Veteran’s Day parade, so a ceremony was held instead. The chapel at the vets home is very dark, and the event speakers were in front away from Mr. Duesterhoeft, but I thought this was a much more interesting photo.
World War II Army veteran and Grand Island Veterans Home member Albert Duesterhoeft (center) sits with other veterans during a Veterans Day program in the home’s All Faiths Chapel.
Computer Girl
An example of making what would have been a “girl with a computer” photo into something a little better to tell the story, I used four strobes, using a couple gels and snoots, to create this photo while balancing the ambient light from the computer screens.
According to West Lawn Elementary fifth-grader Lindsay Luth, 11, only 20 state fairs are held in that state’s capital city. Luth is gathering this information, and other facts on all 50 of the United States, for a Web site she’s designing for her High Ability Learner program project.
What did Ralph do!?!
Loose Ball
It’s a crazy time of year with lots of sports to cover, including an exhibition game that pitted the Nebraska and UNK womens basketball teams against each other here in GI. This is a photo I like that didn’t make the paper.
Nebraska’s Harleen Sidhu (left) and Megan Becker of UNK dive for a loose ball during their exhibition game at the Heartland Events Center in Grand Island. Nebraska won the game, 80-69.
