Mount Carmel Cemetery Tour
On Sept. 13 I was able to visit Ashton for their Polish festival. I’ve covered it in years past, and our focus was on the food. This time Harold Reutter and I traveled to the Mount Carmel Catholic Church and Cemetery in what used to be Paplin, Neb. I decided to try and show the head stones and visitors and saw this arrangement of crosses that would make a nice composition, if I could only wait long enough for someone to walk through it. After five minutes or so, I had my picture.
Rodeo Clown
A nice portrait of a rodeo clown that didn’t make the paper.
Oregon Trail Rodeo clown Barry “Boom Boom” Johnson talks to Doniphan-Trumbull fourth-graders about the dangers he faces in his work during a grade school field trip at the Adams County Fairgrounds in Hastings.
Dude, Nice Truck
I wasn’t expecting much from this assignment, but came away with a nice photo.
The look on scratch ticket lottery winner Darrell Penas’ face tells the story as he waits to receive the 2008 Toyota Tundra 4-by-4 double-cab truck behind him outside Coffin’s Corner in Grand Island where his daughter, Andrea Zuelow, bought $100 worth of scratch tickets as a gift for Penas. The truck was the second top prize winner in the Nebraska Lottery’s $2 Truck$ & Buck$ Scratch Game.
Up in the Big Top
Went to the circus and found this photo. The tent looks like it’s had better days, but the color is nice.
Culpepper & Merriweather Circus performer Simone Dykes sits on the trapeze high above the big top during her act at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Just Checking
A studio illustration for a story about college freshman who must learn to handle their own finances for the first time.
Fight Aftermath
What a crazy scene this was. I thought I walked on to the set of an action movie for a moment. Unfortunately, the blood is all too real.
One of two men who were injured after going through a large plate-glass window during an altercation at Sanchez Plaza restaurant (right) talks to a Grand Island firefighter/paramedic as he is escorted to a waiting ambulance. Both men suffered severe cuts as a result of the incident.
To Junk or Not to Junk
Some studio illustration work to share, with Scott holding the fare. Making good choices with junk food was the theme
Fair Moment
Scott beat me to the blog with his Hall County Fair photo featuring a kid and an animal. He’s my version of the genre.
While helping to set up the pet goat class area in the big barn at Fonner Park in Grand Island, Kylee James, 6, stops to play with one of the goats for a minute.
