Horse Schooling

Horse Schooling

It’s not unusual for my favorite photo from an assignment to not be published in the paper. In this case, while doing a story on the assistant starter at Fonner Park, I took this photo of other members of the gate crew helping a horse get comfortable around the starting gate early in the day. I like the feel of it, and the way the light hits the rider.

A Small Moment

A Small Moment

While the small electrical fire at this woman’s home wasn’t serious enough to make the paper, the four fire engines, four police cars and an ambulance that arrived at her home probably shook her up a bit. I thought it was pretty sweet of this fireman to help the lady back into her home after the fire was put out.

Red Glasses

Just something I saw while on assignment a while back. I don’t know what it means. And no, I didn’t put the glasses there.

Hold This

Hold This

Went to this house fire during below 0 wind chill conditions. Lots of smoke, but no visible flames. Saw this oxygen mask hanging on a statue in the front yard of the house and moved in quickly to get a shot before the fireman came back. I like the off-beat feel of the photo. It’s great that the paper ran the photo as lead art on the front page as a news photo, even though it’s a bit arty.
