Training … and teaching.

Day 16 1/2.

Yeah, I know I’ve already posted today. But I did some more training. And it was tough. Real tough.

I’ve run miles. I’ve walked. I’ve ridden a bike. Now I’ve combined all three: Teaching my seven-year-old son Drew to ride his bike.

My knee is killing me. Run. Stop. Walk. Trot. Run. RUN. Stop. Jump. Walk. Pick up kid. Walk. Stop. Run. Stop. Run. RUN. RUN. RUN. STOP!

ARRRRRRHGGGGGGGGHHHH!

Oh, boy.

This could be tougher than the half-marathon. Tougher on me.

‘Til tomorrow.

Train like Lance, feel like Neil.

Day 16.

And we’re back!

After taking a few days of rest, getting some ‘gel’ inserts and taking the gerital or glucosamine or whatever it is I’m on … I’m now back to training.

On a bike, at least. And it feels like a took a great step. The knee feels fine — at least the pain that was there is gone. In its place is a tiredness that feels good. I like to feel whipped. At least I know I’m doing something.

I was told biking would be a good leg workout with low impact, and that’s exactly what I’m feeling. A good sweat, stretch and some cross-training.

I’m not sure if I’m ready to run or not, but we’ll try that tomorrow. If I can’t, I’ll probably jump on the bike and do that instead until the knee can take running.

One thing about the bike: How the hell do you get the seat to be comfortable? My goodness. I went a few miles to work, worked, then came the few mile home. I had to stop on the way back for a minute when the seat came a bit loose, and folded straight up. Yup. Into my manhood.

I certainly felt like a woman when that happened … and stopped. Some pains, well, you know when to stop for.

If you see me bent over in pain next to a camo covered ‘got milk’ bike (thanks, Dad) with the seat pointed to the heavens, you’ll know two things: My knee can’t take running and I still don’t know how to fix a bike seat.
